Intangible historical and cultural values ​​of Zhitkavitsky district

In Zhytkovice district, there are many distinctive manifestations of the intangible creativity of man, which are a living part of the culture of many villagers to this day. Six elements of intangible cultural heritage of the district are included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values ​​of the Republic of Belarus.

1) Spring rite "Yuravsky Karagod" (Pogost village of Zhitkavitsky District)

The spring rite "Yuravsky Karagod" ("Yurya" rite) is the first element of intangible cultural heritage that received the status of historical and cultural value in 2004, included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values ​​of the Republic of Belarus in 2007, included in the List of Intangible UNESCO cultural heritage, which requires urgent protection in 2019. The project "Implementation of the plan for the protection of the spring rite "Yuravsky Karagod" in The churchyard of the Zhitkavitsky District of the Gomel Oblast, included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which requires urgent protection, was implemented in 2021-2024. by the educational institution "Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts" in cooperation with the Zhitkovice District Executive Committee with the financial support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

2) Singing style of the Turavsky interriver of Pripyat - Stvigi (Richov village, Zhitkavitsky district)

3) The tradition of making a Pripyat boat (Pererov village, Zhitkavitsky District)

4) Artistic practices of straw weaving of the Gomel region (Azyarany village, Zedavka village of Zhytkavytskyi district)

5) The art of carving in the Gomel region (Azyarana village, Zhitkavitsky district)

6) The tradition of preparing and consuming dishes from grated potatoes of the Gomel region (Zhytkavitsky district).

Silaev Artemy, a junior researcher at the museum, notes, that the roots of many of these intangible historical and cultural values ​​originate in paganism. There was a period of dual faith in the territory of Rus' before. The process of formation of existing intangible cultural values ​​is directly related to the interweaving of paganism and Christianity among the local population.
