"Growing Crosses"

The "growing" cross at the Borisoglebsky cemetery began to be talked about in the second half of the 20th century. There is a legend that this cross was discovered by a certain John. One day, while swimming on the river, he saw a cross, and thought that it was wooden and it was washed away by water from the grave. But when he began to lift it, the cross turned out to be stone. At that time, religious people were punished, he couldn't tell about it, fearing the punishment of the authorities, and therefore buried the cross at the Boriso-Glebsky cemetery. Since 1956, the cross began to gradually come out of the ground. By 1997, the top and part of the right wing of the cross were visible. In 2001, the left wing of the cross was also released. In the same year, according to the stories, in winter, at a temperature of 5-15 degrees below zero, all the snow melted within a radius of 3.5 meters, and there were puddles. This phenomenon lasted about 15-16 days and then disappeared. Later, the cross began not only to come out of the ground, but also to grow in breadth. In 2004, the width of the cross was 28 centimeters, in 2007 – 34, in 2009 – up to 35.5 centimeters. For this reason, the cross is called "growing". After 2009, the cross stopped growing in breadth and only gradually comes out of the ground. People who come to him with faith, as a source of grace, ask him for help.
