Town Turov

Turov is the oldest city on the territory of the settlement of the East Slavic tribe of the Dregovichi. The end of the X century was marked by the emergence of the Turov Principality. Turov was first mentioned in the "Tale of Bygone Years" in 980, when Prince Tur came and founded this city. "The Tale of Bygone Years" under the year 980 reports: "... be bo Rogvolod moved from overseas, named his parish in Polotsk, and Tur Turov, from him and Turovtsi was nicknamed" ("... this Rogvolod came from across the sea, and had his power in Polotsk, and Tur - in Turov, according to to him and the Turovians were nicknamed"). Turov in the X-XIII centuries was the capital of the appanage principality and played an important role in the political, economic and socio-cultural life of the East Slavic tribes. The settlement is the only monument that was studied in the middle of the XX century. The lowest strata of the settlement date back to the X century. Now it is a small tourist town in the Zhitkovichi district of the Gomel region with a population of approximately 2,800.
