The monument to the waders in Turov appeared on the central square of this city on May 1, 2009. Its author was the sculptor Dmitry Vrublevsky. Cast in bronze figures mounted on a granite pedestal depict a pair of morodunok. This bird species breeds in the tundra in the north of Eurasia, there is a relatively small isolated population in Belarus. Today it is the only monument to morodunka in the world. This rare sandpiper, listed in the Red Book of Belarus, can be found on the floodplain meadow, which is located on the outskirts of Turov. There the morodunka nests, and also stops during seasonal migrations. It has become one of the symbols of the Turovsky Meadow Nature Reserve. This bird is easily recognized by its upward-pointing beak (unfortunately, due to the fact that the monument to the waders in Turov has repeatedly become the object of vandalism, this feature has been lost).
